Early Initiatives in Lesvos

All4Aid began serving displaced people on the island of Lesvos in 2018 through short-term volunteer teams working inside the former Moria Refugee Camp, at a time when thousands of asylum seekers were living in overcrowded and unsafe conditions. In February 2019, All4Aid assumed management of its first Community Centre directly across from Moria Camp, creating spaces of dignity, safety, and hope for women, children, and families.

Our Work Today in Lesvos

Following the fire that destroyed Moria Camp in 2021 and left more than 12,000 people without shelter, a new facility — the Mavrovouni Refugee Camp — was established in another area of the island. All4Aid then set up a new Community Centre within walking distance of that site. Each week, hundreds of women, children, and families living at the Mavrovouni Camp come through the doors of our Centre to access services that meet practical needs while nurturing a sense of belonging. Our work focuses on well-being, empowerment, and community, always delivered with compassion, respect, and a holistic approach. 

Our programme work on Lesvos includes:

WATER, SANITATION & HYGIENE (WASH)

The Laundry Room
Equipped with industrial washing and drying machines, the laundry room enables families to wash their clothes efficiently and with dignity.

The Shower Room
A safe, warm, and private space where women and girls can access hygiene facilities in a clean and welcoming environment, with everything they need provided (towels, shampoo, hair dryers, etc.).

Baby Bath & Care
A dedicated area where mothers can bathe and care for their infants in warmth, safety, and comfort.

HEALTH & WELL-BEING

The SPA

The Spa area offers foot washing and foot massage, alongside a Beauty Area providing hair and nail care — helping women maintain personal hygiene and restore a sense of dignity and self-worth. The Relaxation Room complements these services, offering a calm environment where women can rest and feel cared for.

FOOD SECURITY

Food Bank

Our Food Bank provides asylum seekers and refugees with essential food items through a respectful, choice-based model. Families and individuals can select what they need according to their preferences and household size, preserving dignity, promoting inclusion, and reducing food waste.

NON-FOOD ITEMS (NFI) DISTRIBUTION

The Shop

Our Shop offers clothing (with a particular focus on women’s underwear), hygiene products, kitchenware, toys, and other essential items, all through a free-choice system. The space is designed to feel like a real shop — organised, friendly, and dignified (e.g.: with fitting rooms and mirrors — with staff and volunteers available for conversation and support.

EDUCATION & SELF-DEVELOPMENT

Children’s Programme

Children can take part in enjoyable learning and play activities in dedicated child-friendly rooms equipped with toys, games, and craft materials, while their mothers access other services. The specific activities offered vary according to the number and skills of the volunteers present.

Adults’ Workshops

Adults can join creative and skills-based workshops that foster confidence, community, and well-being (e.g.: language, arts & crafts, sewing, etc.). As with the children’s programme, the availability, type and frequency of workshops depend on staff and volunteer capacity.
