At our Lesvos centre, we have a Spa Room that is located within the women’s-only Hospitality area. Women and girls can receive All4Aid’s version of a mini spa treatment: legs and feet washing, peel application, followed by a relaxing massage.
The room is peaceful and dimly lit, with relaxing music and essential oils diffused through the air. Often the women don’t know what to expect; after they sit down and put their feet into the warm water, they slowly relax.
Often this is the first time since arriving at the camp that they experience a quiet environment. For some, it is the first gentle and loving touch they have received since fleeing their home country. The women sometimes open up and share about their hard journeys. It is a very intimate and special experience for both women: the volunteer giving the massage and the woman or girl receiving the massage.
They are so thankful for these special moments and always leave the centre a little happier and more hopeful.
