How can volunteering with All4Aid give you new perspectives in life and reasons to be thankful for? Here are some thoughts of a 44-year old short term volunteer after serving in Lesvos:
“The struggles faced by refugees are things I never considered before. We take so many simple things for granted everyday – things like a dry towel after a warm shower, a clean place to sleep, pots to cook in and food to cook. While working in the All4Aid centre, I met two new mothers, each with babies only days old. One of these mothers gave birth on the boat crossing from Turkey into Greece. The other mother has two babies, both born on the journey. I can’t imagine giving birth surrounded by strangers without a clean blanket to keep my baby warm. The desperation for these mothers was unmistakable. They wanted their children to have the chance to live life to the fullest.”
Volunteering is a very humbling and fulfilling experience. As you offer refugees your time, service and love you will not only make a huge difference in their lives, but will also receive a lot and be impacted too.
