Spa Programme Lesvos

In our centre on Lesvos we have a women and girls only community area. Within that, off to the side, we have a cosy room with dimmed lights and calm music playing. This is our Spa Room, where refugee women can receive a foot massage session from one of our volunteers.

If the women like, we wash and peel their feet. Then we start with a gentle massage of the feet and legs. The women have the chance to relax and breathe without distractions. Sometimes they are so relaxed in this safe space that they fall asleep. Many other times the massage session offers the chance for All4Aid volunteers and refugee women to get to know each other, have heart-to-heart conversations and share personal stories.

One of our volunteers shared this story: “As I asked her to remove her shoes and started washing and massaging her feet, there were quiet tears coming down her face. I asked if she was okay. She said she was just overwhelmed with gratitude. She said that in months since she fled her country, this was the first time that she really felt cared for and loved by someone…”

We are happy that in our centre people can experience love and care in such a special and humbling way. What about you? Have you ever washed someone’s feet? Let us know in the comments!
